Contactless temperature control in the IoT Insightful temperatures

The more systems become IoT-capable and should be remotely controllable, the more important the topic of contactless temperature measurement becomes. However, industrial monitoring applications in particular have high demands. So what is important when choosing the right sensor technology?

Temperature is a parameter that is more informative than you might think at first glance. Abnormal temperatures are often early signs of wear and tear, electrical failures, and other problems. You can warn of a possible fire before it actually breaks out. Temperature measurements can detect the presence or absence of people or confirm that a system is ready for use. All of this in addition to the actual role of temperature measurement for the purpose of controlling ovens and radiators.

Often the temperature cannot be measured directly with a measuring probe. Contactless temperature sensors are helpful here. From the detection of unusual temperatures in industrial production lines during operation to the monitoring of various degrees of heat in production environments, contactless sensors such as the Accentec Technologies Tauri can make a contribution to safety - after all, it identifies potential problems before they become a real danger or lead to system failures .

advantages of the integrated signal processing

Accentec Technologies heat sensors are based on an infrared sensor that measures the surface temperature of an object without contact. A thermopile absorbs the radiated energy from the target object. The product integrates a MEMS thermopile, a customer-specific sensor

and a microprocessor for signal and algorithm processing in a tiny housing.

An advantage of the integrated signal processing microprocessor is the fully linear output. With the signal preprocessing in the module, converts the sensor signal into a digital temperature output value for a fairly simple interface to a microcontroller, which makes work easier for system integrators. Alternative components do not offer a temperature output, so the user has to implement a signal processing algorithm to convert the output signal into temperature.

Selection of a non-contact sensor Aside from the temperature range, a key parameter in choosing a contactless sensor is the field of view. Manufacturers often create a wider field of vision by combining several individual sensor elements in one module. However, a wide field of view is not always desirable: sometimes a targeted measurement of a specific object or area is required.
